It is reported that the Nuwara Eliya High Court has sentenced a police officer who sexually assaulted an unmarried (35)-year-old woman to seven years imprisonment and to pay a compensation of 05 lakhs to the victim and a fine of 20,000 rupees to the court.
Nuwara Eliya High Court Judge Viraj Weerasuriya has decided the verdict of this case yesterday (13).
A 35-year-old unmarried woman has been sexually abused by Lakshman Saliya Bandara Weerasinghe, who worked as a police constable at Kandapola Highfort Police Station until the judgment was handed down.
A case has been filed against the police constable in Nuwara Eliya High Court in 2019 regarding this incident.
Police Constable Laxman Saliya Bandara Weerasinghe was convicted at the Nuwara Eliya High Court based on the evidence of this case which has been heard for the past five years.
