It is reported that the Supreme Court has heard the petition that the recommendations made against the current President’s Secretary Mr. Saman Ekanayake by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to look into the political revenges by the former President Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa are completely against the law.
It is stated that the petition was filed by a group of people including the current President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake, who served as Prime Minister’s Secretary at the time, requesting the annulment of the decisions and recommendations made against them by the relevant commission headed by retired Supreme Court Judge Mr. Upali Abeyratne.
It is reported that the hearing of this petition was held before the three-member Supreme Court bench.
It was stated that the President’s Attorney Upul Kumarapperuma, who appeared before the court on behalf of the President’s Secretary Mr. Saman Ekanayake, had accused Mr. Saman Ekanayake of using 33 million government money illegally for a non-governmental organization called the Secretariat of the Anti-Corruption Committee, which was not established by law. have done
Accordingly, he said, the relevant commission had recommended that his civil rights be revoked and criminal charges be filed against him on the charge of criminal misappropriation of government funds.
The President’s Counsel has also pointed out that the anti-corruption committee secretariat is not a non-governmental organization, but an institution regularly established by the cabinet, as the tasks performed by him as the Prime Minister’s Secretary have been carried out in full compliance with the law.
The hearing of the petition was then adjourned by the Supreme Court.
