It is reported that a special discussion was held yesterday (16) regarding the existing problems and challenges in the field of education as well as future education reforms.
The Ministry of Education says that the discussion was held with the participation of the Minister of Education and all the governors, provincial education authorities and union representatives.
It has been proposed here to establish a separate unit for that purpose in the Ministry of Education by merging the nine provinces.
Also, it is mentioned that the trade unions have given facts regarding the problems that have arisen due to the divisions between the provincial authorities and line ministry officials.
Speaking to the media after the discussion, Central Province Governor Lalith U. Gamage said that it is inappropriate for trade unions to speak only to win their rights.
Mr. Joseph Stalin, General Secretary of Ceylon Teachers Union, has mentioned that it is not enough to discuss the problems.
