Minister of State for Finance Mr. Shehan Semasinghe says that the government does not expect to abolish the Samurdhi campaign at any time.
The Minister of State has mentioned that while speaking in the Parliament today (06).
Also, Minister of State for Finance Shehan Semasinghe has further said that a special responsibility will be taken forward to empower the Samurdhi movement.
The Minister of State who further commented,
“The president and the prime minister advised that in the existing system, it is not possible to cut the category of money that must be given to the welfare benefit board and give the remaining money directly to the beneficiary’s bank account. Therefore, we have given instructions to the Ministry of Social Empowerment and the Department of Prosperity. At the time of increasing the number of 20 lakh beneficiaries to 24 lakh from July 2024, they are asked to prepare the system in which all these beneficiaries will contribute to the social security program. Samurdhi development officials have already obtained their consent to credit this contribution amount to Samurdhi business from the bank account currently receiving the benefit…”
