The first major cause of the European Renaissance was the increased interaction between different cultures and societies before and during the Renaissance. During that time, Europe was in the Middle Ages. The Middle Ages had several key features. Feudalism and devout religious faith in the form of Christianity, these characteristics combined to create a society that was very strict socially, religiously and politically. This means that European society at the time was not necessarily open to change. However, the essence of the Renaissance was that Europe experienced a change in worldview and outlook. This shift was caused by the new ideas and beliefs that Europe was exposed to in the centuries before the Renaissance, which began in the 14th century.
The European Renaissance, which spanned from the 14th to the 17th century, was important because it paved the way for the major events of the Age of Enlightenment. In addition, it brought about a major change in European thought and worldview. Although the European Renaissance is considered to have begun in the states of the Italian peninsula, its main ideas spread throughout Europe in the 16th century. The European Renaissance resulted in aspects of European architecture, art, literature, mathematics, music, philosophy, politics, religion and science.
Although not in that sense, the Europeans of that time stood up against the strict persecution of the Catholic Church. Sri Lankans stood up against the rulers at this time. It is because of the abuse received from the rulers. This stand-up will begin on March 31 near Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s house in Mirihan. Then it begins as a “struggle of love” with the youth standing up. The Special Task Force brutally attacked the people who went to Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s house to demand electricity and gas. Those brutal attackers also beat the journalists to pieces. Their camera phones were also smashed. It is due to the illegal process of Sri Lanka’s Special Task Force. Because of the diverse patriotic people who were created in this country between March 31 and April 10. There was a real purity to it.
Later, the first victory of the struggle, which was strong enough to bring fear of death not only to the president but also to the members of the ruling party, as a youth struggle and non-partisan, will be achieved on May 9, 2021, bringing death fear to Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa. On that day, it was reported that the people of this country set fire to a large number of houses belonging to the ruling class. It was with the supporters of Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa attacking the Galle Mudoora struggle ground.
With that attack, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa fled. Because the people were looking for him. He fled to escape death and ended up alone on an island in the middle of the sea. At the same time, Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe is appointed as the Prime Minister with the opposition leader and Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake also refusing to accept it.
As soon as he was appointed, the struggle was diluted. But since he was also unable to solve the problems, the struggle was reorganized and arrangements had to be made to expel the Minister of Finance, Mr. Basil Rohana Rajapaksa, who was considered one of the most corrupt politicians in the country. That is on 06/09/2021. Since then, the struggle has changed again and started with new energy and the only goal of the youth was to oust the former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa from a distance on 07/09/2021. We mentioned about it on this website as “the same thing that happened to Gaddafi will happen to Gotabha”. That was two months ago.
Finally, the purified fighters managed to completely remove the Rajapakse family’s power by 09.07.2021. But the political leaders did not do anything to the Parliament to present the necessary proposals to be removed by the Parliament according to law. As a result, hundreds of thousands of oppressed people came to Sri Lanka’s capital to oust the president. Finally, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s so-called “non-partisan” residents managed to completely remove the Rajapakse regime. It completed 100 days today.
This peaceful struggle started on April 9, 2021 at Galumuwadora field and by May 9, the Rajapakse family itself had to flee the country. But they tried to stay in power by using various tricks to starve 66 lakh Sri Lankan people.
Ending all their power activities, the people of the country took to the streets without even fuel to go to Colombo. Even the buses of the Ceylon Transport Board were taken out of service on that day, stopping even the distribution of fuel for weeks.
In that way, the massive public protest held on July 9th, a large number of people gathered at Gallumudoora in Colombo, went down in history as the most peaceful public struggle ever held in this country with the participation of hundreds of thousands of people. Moreover, it also joined the world history.
At the end of the Rajapakse regime, almost 3000 patriotic young lives were lost. But no person, including the police officers who set the country on fire by using state power, has been prosecuted. The power of the Rajapaksa family was so strong.
After the victory on 9th July, the purity of the struggle ended with the political party activities to share the non-partisan historical struggle. The Bar Association, which had helped the struggle, also withdrew. At the same time, the struggle was diluted. It was the university students who took to the streets against the dominant Rajapaksa for the strugglers or the oppressed people. It is no secret that they were led by the Frontline Socialist Party and the Janata Vimukthi Peramuna. However, for the sake of the young people who stood up for it, they have not been able to win anything for their future. Now they are caught in “rogue political knots”.
Europe has been rising for centuries. Now Sri Lanka needs to wake up. Young people sacrificed their lives to build a new country. Suffered. But they still haven’t got what they really want. They haven’t figured out what it is yet. They must give what they ask for. At the same time, in order to take Sri Lanka in a direction, we must pass the “National Youth Charter” in the Parliament and give life to them and the next generation.
