Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe had stated that the main problem in Sri Lanka is that professionals do not pay taxes properly and if taxes were paid properly, the economy of Sri Lanka would not have suffered such a disaster.
However, the main reason why Mr. Acharya Nandalal was not seen is not non-payment of taxes. Not properly managing public funds in relation to taxes paid. Tax evasion has happened especially as part of the waste, fraud, corruption and irregularities in government institutions.
Also the main cause of fraud and corruption is the Procurement Guidelines Code No. 49 of 2006. Also, due to the implementation of the Act by depriving the Inspector General of power, more corruption and frauds occur than tax revenue. All purchases of public institutions operating from public tax revenue are made in accordance with the above-mentioned Procurement Guidelines Code No. 49 of 2006. Accordingly, the first thing that should be done is to cancel this code and enforce the law by regularizing the affairs again in the way it was before.
He states that no matter how much tax a professional has to pay in this country, everyone knows how much they pay, and if they go to another country like Australia, America, they pay tax on every dollar they earn. The Governor of the Central Bank said this while attending a program held for the 135th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Medical Association.
Accordingly, it seems to us that the governor of the central bank knows how to increase the income by increasing taxes and give them tips to evade the payment of taxes. What should be done is not taxing by increasing the price of common consumables that do not evade tax. What should be done first is to implement a mechanism to stop fraud, corruption and irregularities in government institutions. After that, the corrupt system that came with the procurement guidelines number 49 of 2006 is to be put to an immediate end. By not doing so, we can see that the Governor of the Central Bank also has no vision to build the country. A country cannot be built on taxes and no matter how much taxes are increased, the tax money is destroyed by corrupt methods. The temporary plaster of the central bank governor who has no vision to put an end to that system will be like “Atisareta Amude Gehuwa”.
Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe says that they will pay taxes to a separate country and at least that tax amount should be paid to Sri Lanka.
The Governor of the Central Bank who said that the common people pay a lot of tax for their education to produce a doctor in Sri Lanka, but even so, a doctor has paid less tax in his profession.
The central bank governor who says that the main problem facing Sri Lanka is the decrease in tax revenue, states that for that reason the government is unable to spend on basic needs, and therefore there is no debate that tax revenue should be increased.
The Governor of the Central Bank said this while attending a program held for the 135th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Medical Association.
