Mr. Nimal G. Punchihewa, chairman of the Election Service Commission, has stated that it is not constitutionally possible to hold a parliamentary election before March next year.
Speaking further, the chairman said that there is legal provision to dissolve the parliament two and a half years after the first meeting of the parliament after a general election.
The Chairman of the Election Commission has stated this while participating in a ceremony held in Kegalle area.
Also, the chairman has also stated that it is essential to pass the necessary legal provisions in the parliament as soon as possible to hold the provincial council elections in the old voting system.
