Many people affected by the growing economic instability in the country are trying to leave the country for foreign jobs.
In this environment, we see in the society that even the parents of small children, especially the mothers, are working to go abroad.
In view of this situation, the Minister of State for Women and Children’s Affairs, Mrs. Geeta Kumarisingha stated that the necessary laws are currently being formulated to prevent women with children under the age of 05 from resorting to foreign employment.
She has also pointed out that the government’s decision to allow mothers with children over two years of age to travel abroad is problematic.
Therefore, State Minister Mrs. Geeta Kumarasinghe states that children who are left alone in Sri Lanka due to their mothers going abroad are even abused in many cases.
This has become a serious social problem today.
