Kandy National Hospital’s cancer unit has been cut off due to non-payment of the electricity bill of 48 lakhs.
Member of Parliament Lakshman Kiriella drew the attention of the Minister of Health to this issue and pointed out that due to this power cut, the treatment in the unit has also stopped.
The MP further stated that treatments such as radiant treatment for cancer patients are now impossible to provide.
Until lakhs of electricity bills are collected, we should find out why the administration of the hospital or those responsible for this did not pay them, and this game with patients’ lives should be stopped now.
These helpless patients may not have to face this kind of situation if the officials as well as the managers who have been appointed responsible for these scopes have done their duty properly.
Right now, proper measures should be taken and life-dependent treatment of these debilitated patients should be started.
