On July 11th, the Parliament received some goods which were not ordered by the Parliament but were paid for by a private institution. According to Mr. Buddhika Pathirana, Member of Parliament, there was a mattress that was more than a foot high among the items brought in.
However, today (09) Member of Parliament Buddhika Pathirana revealed that the documents for the importation of these goods were signed by the President’s Parliamentary Secretary and that the mattress was brought to the President’s office.
In addition to this, the member of parliament who disclosed about the related goods said that the bill related to the swearing-in ceremony of the President was paid by the same private organization that claims to have paid for the related goods. Therefore, he has requested the Secretary General of the Parliament to conduct investigations on this matter.
Also, Member of Parliament Hesha Withanage has further stated that 20 acres of land in Hambegamuwa area has been assigned to the company related to the above incident.
