Maldivian President Ibrahim Solly has been elected as the candidate of the Democratic Party in the elections to be held there. According to foreign media reports, the Maldivian President won with a majority of votes, defeating the chairman and speaker of the party, Mohamed Nasheed, in a primary poll held there.
Foreign media reports that this is the first time that an incumbent president in the Maldives has won a primary election to run for re-election.
