A symbolic strike of 24 hours is taking place in several areas from 08:00 today (08) to 08:00 tomorrow (09) in protest against the high taxes imposed by the government in Sri Lanka.
Reverend Muratthettuwe Ananda Thero, President of the Nurses’ Association, said that he would not support the doctors’ professional actions.
Unions of Ceylon Electricity Board have joined the protest by reporting sick leave today, demanding the tax policy and the unpaid arrears to the employees.
And against this tax policy, the union of professional accountants has organized a protest today at 02:00 pm at Hyde Pitiya, Colombo.
But the Director General of the Financial Policy Department Mr. Acharya Kapila Senanayake has said that due to the economic situation in the country, this tax should be imposed as a short-term solution, and this tax system is a very low percentage compared to Asian countries.
