A plan to register all those who provide tourism services in the southern province and give them an ID card and a uniform!
In order to maintain a quality tourism industry, all the groups that provide tourism facilities in the southern province are registered in the Ruhunu Tourism Bureau and work to provide training workshops and necessary facilities to empower them, says Channa Saliya Mendis, Chairman of the Ruhunu Tourism Bureau.
The Chairman of Ruhunu Tourism Bureau also said that they are working to provide a uniform like an official ID card for tour guides, three-wheeler drivers in tourist areas, drivers who transport local and foreign tourists, Yala Safari Jeep drivers, people who provide tourism services along rivers and lagoons.
He says that 650 safari jeep owners have already been given necessary training in Yala Park.
Mr. Channa Saliya Mendis says that there are about 350 boats providing services to tourists around the Madu River, but only 99 boat owners are registered with the local authorities.
The chairman of the Ruhunu Tourism Bureau further mentioned that in the future these boat owners will be given the necessary training and will be registered in the Ruhunu Tourism Bureau and given a license and an official uniform.
