In order to prevent the entry of the bird flu virus into the country, the eggs imported from India were not allowed to be sold in stores for general consumption and the Animal Production and Health Department decided to provide those eggs only for bakery products. But it is reported that the officials of the Consumer Affairs Authority and the Food Control Unit of the Ministry of Health found a stock of eggs imported from India in a shop in the Matara-Walgama area.
It is also stated that the Department of Animal Production and Health has been informed in this regard.
A brother of the owner of the store where this stock of eggs was found, has a bakery manufacturing company and expressed suspicion that the relevant stock of eggs got to the store through that.
