It is reported that a young man, who was a subcontractor, lost his life today (28) in an accident that occurred when a machine pulling sand from the ground to the upper floors collided with a construction site of a tourist hotel in Moragalle, Aluthgama.
It is said that Galaboda Arachchige Eranda Sampa (24), who was living at the address of Kobeidouwa Miriswatta Bentota, was unmarried.
A brother of the deceased also worked at this work site and the injured was rushed to the hospital, but the coroner has stated that he was dead by then.
Beruwala coroner Mr. Reginald Hettiarachchi, who observed the place where the deceased fell, has stated that the accident occurred shortly after starting the daily duties at the work site and that the death was caused by an accident due to the insecurity of the machine.
Then the coroner who examined the dead body which was deposited in Aluthgama Hospital has ordered the Aluthgama Police to take the dead body to Kalutara Teaching Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The coroner has further stated that the administrator of the work site was not present at the time of the accident and the administrator should be concerned about the safety condition while operating this machine.
The police have been ordered to arrest the workplace administrator in relation to the death and police sergeant Rathnayakaya is conducting the investigation on the instructions of Aluthgama Police Station Chief Inspector Romesh Ratnasingham.
