It is reported that the Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera said in a discussion held with managers of economic centers and farmer representatives that it has been decided to provide urea fertilizer to vegetable farmers from the high season, which will be available at the same price as urea fertilizer for paddy cultivation.
The farmer representatives who expressed their views in the discussion have mentioned that they are in dire straits due to the current drought and the high prices of fertilizers, and due to this, steps should be taken to provide urea fertilizers at a concessional price for paddy cultivation as well as vegetable cultivation.
In response to the request made by the farmers’ representatives, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has announced that starting from the next season, steps will be taken to provide urea fertilizer to vegetable farmers at the same price as urea fertilizer for paddy cultivation. Fertilizers are being prepared and arrangements have been made to provide those fertilizers at a lower price than the market price.
