It is reported that the Kalutara Division Criminal Investigation Unit has arrested a person yesterday (10) who used the Dodangoda exchange center to import home electrical appliances online and cheated them on gas stoves and rice cookers on a large scale.
Complaints have been received regarding two incidents of this suspect fraudulently obtaining household electrical appliances worth over 12 lakh rupees and fraudulently carrying a stock of gas stoves worth over 6 lakh rupees.
According to reports, investigations have revealed that he has prepared order forms under the guise of running electrical equipment stores in areas including Matara and Galle and obtained electrical equipment from wholesale businessmen in Colombo area. The mobile phone has also been switched off and hidden and told to send the rest to the stores where it was ordered.
The police have found 143 gas stoves and 48 rice cookers fraudulently obtained by this suspect.
