At present, even the law of Sri Lanka is being implemented in the way that criminals want. Several competent authorities of the Sri Lanka Police and even the Special Task Force are working to protect these criminals and in many areas even the OICs’ are turning the law book as per the criminals’ needs. Also, the criminals themselves are the ones who carry out the necessary operations to kill the police officers who oppose the implementation of the law as required by the criminals. There are a handful of such officers in the Special Task Force as well.
While this destruction is happening like this, President’s Counsel Dr. Vijayadasa Rajapaksa, Minister of Judicial Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reform, is working to appoint a new task force to suppress the importation, distribution, sale and use of drugs.
Recently, the Minister of Justice had stated in a discussion held at the Ministry of Justice Auditorium regarding the steps to be taken to prevent the youth of Sri Lanka from using poisons and dangerous drugs.
Representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Health, Attorney General’s Department, Police Department and Navy participated in this discussion, including the Minister of Public Security, Tiran Alas, the Minister of State for Justice and Prisons, Attorney Anuradha Jayaratne, and Mr. Sanjay Rajaratnam, Attorney General.
However, because of this drug, prisons are becoming overcrowded day by day, for the new task force to suppress the distribution, sale and use of drugs, as well as for the national policy that is being prepared with the aim of preventing the youth from resorting to drug use. He has stated that the use of dangerous drugs is rapidly spreading among the youth of this country and that the support of all parties is needed.
It has been stated that more attention should be paid to the referral of people who are incarcerated due to drug use to rehabilitation centers and community reformation process and the necessary steps will be taken promptly.
As an important statement, he has stated that the forensic reports related to the people who use drugs and go to jail should be given within a week and the people who use drugs should be arrested as well as the people who distribute drugs on a large scale.
However, disciplinary investigation officers should be appointed to this task force to select the criminals properly and truthfully. Also, a secret team should be installed separately by installing a three-armed operation room for raids. Without such a system, arresting these drug dealers or criminals would be just a dream.
