Sri Lanka is a signatory to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora on 4 May 1979.
At the Cabinet meeting held on 06th September 2016, approval was given to amend the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance No. 22 of 2009 to enable the provisions of the relevant Convention to be enforced locally.
It is reported that the Attorney General’s clearance has been received for the amended Bill prepared by the Legislative Draftsman and the Bill was introduced by the Minister of Wildlife and Forest Conservation and the proposal was approved by the Cabinet.
