ARMY COMMANDER VISITS RUSSIA MEETS COMMANDER OF THE RUSSIAN OPERATIONS COMMAND

Chief of Defense Staff of Sri Lanka and Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva, who is on an official visit to Russia, called on General Oleg Salyukovy, Commander of the Russian Operations Forces.

They discussed at length how to take the existing military cooperation ties between the two countries in a new direction and the mechanical and technological needs as well as the mutual needs.

He also recalled the historical roots of the two countries over the centuries and the technical and mechanical cooperation extended by the Russian Government during the humanitarian operation in Sri Lanka.

They also focused on a number of issues of mutual interest, including the promotion of training programs for members of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces, the conduct of joint military exercises and the exchange of mechanical, engineering and technical knowledge.

At the end of the discussion, the Commander of the Russian Operations Forces, General Oleg Salyukovy presented a special memento to the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, General Shavendra Silva, while the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army presented a special memento to the Commander of the Russian Army.

During the visit, the Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva also visited the Advanced Combat Command School in Moscow.
