DEATH CHARGES AGAINST COMMERCIAL BANK

Somasiri Fernando, owner of Bhupani Traders (Pvt) Ltd in Matugama has committed suicide.

It is said that the reason for the suicide was acting in a depressing manner and the Business Protection Council has made allegations against the Commercial Bank branch in Matugama in this regard.

Mr. Fernando was deeply disturbed by the action taken by the Board of Directors of the Commercial Bank of Ceylon to take over the property of the Government and the Central Bank, and the Government and the Central Bank had postponed the action for six months. Being is also cited as one of the factors that led to this suicide.

Prior to the death of the businessman, the Commercial Bank of Ceylon had violated the recommendations of the Governor of the Central Bank, Ajith Nivard Cabraal.

This was revealed in an inquiry made by the Chairman of the Local Business Protection Council, Mr. Mahendra Perera.
