The public who visited the Weligepola Divisional Secretariat today (01) have been inconvenienced and many have returned.
The victims are those who came to the Divisional Secretariat without the vaccination card. It was also noted on social media that people who do not have the vaccination card have not been admitted to the office.
When we inquired about this from the Weligepola Divisional Secretary, he stated that the Ratnapura District Secretary had given such instructions. However, after we explained its legal status to him, he took action to free the people from that inconvenience.
A similar incident was reported at Ambewila Primary School recently where the principal of the school had instructed the parents to check their vaccination cards. But there was no inconvenience to the students.
But if a person is not provided with government services due to non-vaccination, it violates the fundamental rights of the citizens and other articles and circulars violating the basic human rights. But if a bill is passed by Parliament, both parties will not be allowed to act outside it. They cannot change the law at their own discretion or violate basic human rights.
It is a well-known fact that senior officials in many government agencies give wrong advice at meetings as well as in other matters. But it is the high officials who behave so lowly as to say that I did not say such a thing when I went to work without giving those instructions in writing. We have seen many instances where the public as well as high and low ranking officials are severely inconvenienced due to fear of superiors or fear of losing privileges and ignorance of the law.
