Police Media Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Nihal Talduwa has reported that there have been 1126 fatal road accidents and 1190 people have lost their lives in the period up to July 9 of this year.
Also, statistics show that one person dies in a car accident every 20 seconds in the world, and 3750 people die in car accidents in the world every day, which is between 1.2 and 1.3 million per year.
It is reported that the cause of many of these accidents is the carelessness, imprudence of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians while using the road and not obeying the traffic rules.
