It is reported that a 96-year-old woman has passed the postgraduate examination with flying colors.
Yesterday (13) the results of the Master’s Degree in Buddhist Studies of Kelaniya University were announced.
She is 96-year-old Withanage Lilawathi Aslin Dharmaratne, a resident of Nawalapitiya, Pattunupitiya.
Thus, it is reported that she has become the oldest woman in this country to have a postgraduate degree.
Born in the year 1927, Lilavati Aslin Dharmaratne appeared for the final examination of the Master of Buddhist Studies course held in December last year. In the year 2001, he faced all the exams for the Tripitaka Dharma and Dhamma and the Pali language degree at the same time and passed all the three exams with honors.
Lilavati Aslin Dharmaratne has worked as an English teacher and a notary by profession.
Maya has now become a loving grandmother of 6 educated daughters and 13 grandchildren who are working for the society. Her aim is to become a professor like her second daughter who is nearing her hundredth mark in her life journey.
And she further stated that she will continue her studies.
