It is reported that a stock of black beans, dried turmeric and turmeric powder, which were illegally imported into Sri Lanka under the guise of chickpeas, was found.
Although it was stated that 42,600 kg of chickpeas were in the relevant container, only 5,390 kg of chickpeas were found in it and during the inspection of other containers, it is stated that illegally imported dry turmeric, turmeric powder and udhu were found.
It is also reported that the amount of tax owed to the government in relation to this is 92,446,000 rupees. The total value of these materials is over 20 million rupees.
It is reported that the Customs Revenue Monitoring Division has started investigations regarding a businessman in Petaling Jaya who imported these substances illegally.
