A COURT ORDER PREVENTING A PROTEST.

The Magistrate’s Court No. 05, Aluthkade, Colombo prevented the protest that was scheduled to be held tomorrow (26) at Peliyagoda Manning Market.
It is reported that an order has been issued.

It is said that the order has been issued after considering the facts presented to the court today (25) by the police inspector of Peliyagoda police headquarters.

Alleging that stalls in Peliyagoda Manning Market are being given to outsiders, the General Trade Union had decided to engage in strike action tomorrow (25) and the police has filed a complaint to the Magistrate’s Court stating that this strike may cause public distress.

Accordingly, the relevant order has been issued and this order has been issued to the members including the chairman and secretary of the Manning Market Public Trade Society.

The court has further stated that if the protest is carried out despite the prohibitory order, the police have the ability to act under section 106(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code, and the violation of that order is an offense punishable under section 185 of the Penal Code of Ceylon.
