A DECISION ON SEMI-LUXURY BUSES.

It is reported that the National Transport Commission has announced that semi-luxury buses will be abolished after next month.

Director General Nilan Miranda has stated that the number of complaints received regarding semi-luxury buses has increased.

“We have taken action to convert the semi-luxury service into a regular service and a luxury service as per the instructions of the Ministry of Transport. Accordingly, all bus owners have been informed to convert their bus into a normal service or a luxury service. We do this without charging any fees. Currently, there are about 430 semi-luxury buses. Currently, about 20 buses have received requests for such service amendments and are being implemented. Currently, bus owners have been informed that the service revision will be carried out until May 31.

However, Mr. Gemunu Wijeratne, President of Ceylon Private Bus Owners Association, has stated that there is a problem regarding the implementation of this.
