If any theft or other illegal activity occurs in any retail establishment including supermarkets, the police informs the public to control those parties through security officers and inform the police.
Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Advocate Mr. Nihal Talduwa said that it is not possible to attack anyone against the law for the crime of stealing goods.
Attending a press conference held in Colombo, Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Advocate Mr. Nihal Talduwa further stated,
“If you see a product being stolen from your company, you have security personnel, especially if it is a supermarket, control that person and notify the police. But the alternative is not to attack. It is absolutely unacceptable. If an attack is made, the people who work in that company will be the suspects. They will be arrested. The law will be enforced against them. We request the managers and higher officials of such institutions to pay special attention in this regard. They have been instructed. If there is someone doing wrong in the institution, do some control through the security forces and notify the police…”
