A police officer traveling on a motorcycle this afternoon (17) in Candalanda area on Padukka Ingiriya road.
It is reported that he died after being run over by a small lorry.
While trying to overtake a lorry driving in the same direction from Padukka towards Ingiriya, a motorcycle collided with the lorry and the motorcycle was thrown along with the police officer and was crushed by another small lorry coming from the opposite direction.
The motorcyclist, who was seriously injured in the accident, died after being admitted to Ingiriya Hospital.
A 34-year-old Navalakanda Kalawana resident of Athurugiriya Police Constable who was on duty has lost his life.
The driver of the lorry that came from the opposite direction has been arrested in connection with the accident and it is reported that police investigations are underway to arrest the driver of the other lorry.
