It is reported that the Land Development Corporation has started a project to rehabilitate canals, dams and tanks with the aim of controlling floods in the city of Colombo on the instructions of Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.
It is stated that this project is being started because the flood situation may intensify in the future due to the lack of proper maintenance of the canal system for draining water.
Accordingly, the restoration of several other lakes and canals including Nagahamulla Lake, Battaramulla, Diwawanna Oya, Kimbulawala Canal, Thalawathugoda Lake, and the canal near the three bridges have already started.
