It is reported that a girl who went swimming in the Abittangoda canal in Elpitiya drowned.
This girl along with her mother and sister went swimming in the Abittangoda canal yesterday (03) evening.
All three of them drowned there and were later taken to the hospital, where the girl died, police said.
She was a 14-year-old school student residing in Ganegoda, Katapatha.
Her mother and sister are currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of the Elpitiya Hospital in a critical condition.
Elpitiya Police is conducting further investigations in this regard.
