Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena speaking in the Parliament today (7) has said that there is only the ability to issue statements regarding local government bodies according to the law.
The Prime Minister has also stated that a meeting with the Election Commission and the Treasury Secretary is scheduled to be held today to discuss future decisions and measures.
The Prime Minister has mentioned this when MP Buddhika Pathirana inquired about the measures to be taken after the end of the official term of the local government bodies on the 19th of this month.
Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena further commented.
“Mr. Speaker, the Leader of the Opposition has also asked the same question as our Matara district honorable member. So the leader of the opposition is also asking the same question at the end.
It can only be done according to the law. It will be possible to get down to the next issues after the discussion today by inviting the Election Commission and the Secretary of the Treasury.
