Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says that although the cost of producing an egg in Sri Lanka is 30 rupees, the price of a local egg in the market has risen to 60 rupees.
He says that steps will be taken to impose a maximum retail price for eggs with immediate effect to prevent unfair exploitation of the people by egg producers and trade mafia.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has also mentioned that this maximum retail price will be submitted to the Consumer Protection Authority next week.
