Mr. Udayanga Weeratunga, the former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, says that the dates for a general election will be announced after the coming Sinhala Hindu New Year.
He says that although some ministers have declared that they will support the current president in the upcoming elections due to various privileges, it is not the opinion of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna at the village level.
“They say that after the end of the Sinhala year, a date will be set for a general election. We are sure that Pohottu will win the majority in the general election. Today Mr. Basil is ready to lead our front. People came to accept it. More than 50 MPs came to welcome Mr. Basil. That’s a good start. If Ranil Wickramasinghe comes from our party, 50,000 more will be added to the two and a half lakh. You will get more than you even if you appoint those announcers. The people of the village have a vision even though they put it on the top to save the ministership and get a certain position. The leader of Pohottu makes that request.”
Prof. Charita Herath MP says that Podujana Peramuna, which has destroyed its mandate, has no political future.
However, former MP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam states that President Ranil Wickramasinghe will have the support of all parties in the upcoming elections.
United National Party (UNP) and Janata Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) MP Harshana Rajakaruna says that there is a political deal.
