The Government Medical Officers’ Association said that the last week of January would be declared a black protest week.
This has led to the declaration of a week of black protests in protest against the arbitrary tax revision by the government.
Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, the media spokesperson of the Government Medical Officers’ Association stated that due to the government’s decision to levy taxes further due to the economic crisis the country is in, the professionals will be severely affected.
The doctor also emphasized that the process of obtaining signatures of 20,000 doctors on a petition covering all the hospitals in the island is currently underway as a protest against this arbitrary process of the government.
He further stated that arrangements have been made to deliver the petition to President Ranil Wickremesinghe on the 10th of January.
