It is reported that an official creditor committee has been formed for debt restructuring in Sri Lanka in the first meeting related to debt restructuring held through the online system.
Also, this committee is formed with the participation of 17 creditor groups and India, France and Japan take the lead here.
The Sri Lankan authorities have also participated in this first discussion, where the Paris Club has announced that they made the official request for debt restructuring.
Mr. Masato Kanda, Japan’s high level financial representative, has stated that China participated in this discussion as an observer and he further mentioned that it is expected that China will participate as a full member in the future discussions.
Also, that the debt restructuring process will take place on the basis of fair sharing, all commercial and multilateral creditors of Sri Lanka have been informed, and that they will provide maximum support to Chinese financial institutions in the debt restructuring process of Sri Lanka, in order to reach a permanent solution in this regard.
