It is reported that the cabinet has informed the heads of the central bank to present the facts to the parliament regarding the salary increase of the central bank employees.
It is reported that this notification was made when the central bank chiefs presented the matter to the cabinet regarding the increase in salaries of the central bank employees by 70 percent.
Chiefs including Central Bank Governor Mr. Nandalal Weerasinghe were called before the cabinet for questioning regarding the related salary increase incident.
It is reported that there has been strong opposition in the Cabinet regarding the increase in the relevant salaries.
Several ministers have also directly questioned the central bank officials regarding the incident of increasing the levies, and the ministers have expressed their displeasure with the answers given by the central bank officials.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe has also stated that the increase in salaries of Central Bank employees has been done without informing him and the President has also expressed his objection to the related incident.
However, since the finance minister and the cabinet do not have the legal authority to issue orders regarding the increase in salaries, the heads of the central bank have been informed to present the matter to the parliament, which has the monetary power of the country.
