Social media activist Darshan Handungoda has reportedly been arrested at Katunayake Airport. According to reports, he was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department yesterday night (05) while returning to Sri Lanka from Dubai.
According to police sources, he has been accused of fleeing the country without assisting the ongoing investigations on the suspicion that he had encouraged the protesters to break into the temple building on May 9th.
On several previous occasions, the Criminal Investigation Department had called him and questioned him in this regard. A few weeks ago, when he was informed to come back to the Criminal Investigation Department, the police informed the court about it after it was reported that he was abroad. It is said that he was arrested at Katunayake airport according to the court order.
However, we ourselves have not confirmed whether such a court order had been issued or whether the Criminal Investigation Department had been summoned before. However, Sri Lanka’s security chiefs are also being accused of supporting the struggle
