Mr. Nijith Sumanasena, President of the Association of Entomology Officers, has pointed out that dengue cases are increasing rapidly all over the island.
He has further mentioned that the highest number of dengue cases are reported from the Western Province.

“Currently, the number of dengue patients is increasing. The increase in rain and temperature across the country is causing this situation to grow further. There is an increase in patients especially in the Western Province compared to last year. 2017 is recorded as the year with the highest number of patients in recent times. According to the statistical data, we can say that after 2017, a large number of patients will be reported in the year 2023. Accordingly, this situation may develop further in the future. There is a possibility that the number of deaths will increase due to the current risk situation.” It has been said.
It is said that the attention of the health departments is to implement programs such as educating the people and destroying mosquito breeding places, paying more attention in the health medical officer divisions where patients are currently reported with high risk in the western province.
Accordingly, it is reported that the Western Province Health Department has taken steps to implement a special anti-dengue program from today (26) until May 2.
