It is reported that the Election Commission will call the District Election Assistant Commissioners and Deputy Election Commissioners tomorrow (11).
Mr. Nimal G. Punchihewa, Chairman of the Election Commission, has mentioned that this call is being made for an awareness program about the upcoming local government elections.
He has further said that he has made a written request to the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance that an amount of 770 million rupees is needed for the month of February for election activities, but no response has been received to the request made from the Secretary.
In this regard, Mr. Rohana Hettiarachchi, the Executive Director of Paffaral Organization, has stated that he will request the President and the government to provide the necessary financial allocations for the referendum to the Election Commission as soon as possible.
