The Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Amaraweera, stated that by the time of the upcoming season, 100% of the maize requirement is expected to be met by the farmers of the country.
Yesterday (22nd) the minister mentioned this while participating in the reception of a batch of maize seeds received by the Thai government.
With the support of the Thai government, 144 metric tons of maize seeds have been donated to this country for the farmers to cultivate in the high season.
Hanna Singer, the country’s representative of the United Nations, was also present for the occasion of accepting the seed stock.
