Electricity and Energy Minister Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera says that electricity consumers will have the opportunity to pay the fee charged in installments when getting a new electricity connection.
He has said this while replying to a question sent by Member of Parliament H.M.Dharmasena expecting oral answers.
Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera, Minister of Electricity and Energy, who spoke there,
“Recently, we took 2 policy decisions. The first thing is to give some time to the households with very small electricity bills without disconnecting the electricity. To settle it. Also, the reconnection fee which was around 3000 rupees was reduced to 1300 rupees. In addition, this year we have worked to reduce it to 800 rupees. When getting a new connection, the full amount is 51000 rupees, but now it has been reduced to between 35,000 and 40,000 rupees. The electricity board is working to introduce a facility to pay only 25 percent of that amount and pay the rest in installments, in 10 or 12 installments. It has been approved by the Board of Directors and it will be officially notified.”
