The Ceylon Electricity Board stated that the capacity of the reservoirs associated with the power plants has now decreased to 23%.
It is said that the capacity of Randenigala has decreased to 8.1% and the capacity of Victoria Reservoir has decreased to 27%.
The capacity of Samanala Lake reservoir has also decreased to 1.9% of the total capacity.
Under such conditions, 80% of the electricity demand in this country is supplied by coal and thermal power.
Because of this, it is reported that Sri Lanka Public Utilities Commission has approved the Sri Lanka Electricity Board to purchase 100 megawatts of electricity for a period of 6 months.
