JUSTICE OF THE PEACE CONDITIONS ARE RELAXED.

It is reported that the condition of passing three subjects in the G.E.C. Advanced Level examination, which was set as the educational qualification to obtain the appointment of Justice of the Peace, has been reduced to G.E.C. Ordinary Level.

In a special gazette issued by the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reform, Dr. Wijedasa Rajapaksa on November 27, it has been stipulated that three A-level subjects must be passed as the educational qualification for the appointment of Justice of the Peace.

Amending that rule, the Minister of Justice has issued another special gazette announcement on the 13th of the last day, and it has been stipulated that six subjects must be passed with two award passes in the G.E.O.

Even so, even if a person does not have that qualification, if a renowned religious leader or a society president recommends that he is suitable to be appointed as a justice of the peace considering his exemplary service to the community, the Minister of Justice can consider that person and appoint that person as a justice of the peace.
