It is reported that the number of children admitted to the first grade in schools has decreased to three lakh due to the decrease in birth rate.
In 2012, 345,000 children were enrolled in the first grade of schools, but in 2018, that number has decreased to 328,000.
At the press conference held yesterday (19) at the Presidential Media Center, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said that by the year 2022, the number of children enrolled in the first grade has decreased to three lakh.
The minister also said that although the number of children who drop out of school during the school period (up to the regular level) was 16.07 percent in 2012, it has now decreased to more than 7 percent.
He has said that the children have left the school in classes 6, 7, 8 and 9.
