The health department has stated that the number of leprosy cases has increased and 864 cases have been reported in the first 7 months of this year alone.
Accordingly, it is reported that 161 leprosy patients have been found in Colombo area and 47 patients have been found in Egodawela Health Medical Officer Division alone.
Dr. Prasad Ranawira, an expert at the Ministry of Health’s leprosy prevention unit, said that the display of leprosy awareness boards will start in the Western Province from next week.
