It is reported that the Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Amaraweera, instructed the officials of the Agriculture Sector Modernization Project when he went to observe a Badulla Kumbalwela chilli cultivation project to increase the production of local dry chillies by 25% this year.
He said that although Sri Lanka needs 55,000 metric tons of dry chilies annually, 50,000 metric tons of it is imported from foreign countries. It is said that since the annual production of dry chillies in this country is about 5000 metric tons, the officials of the agriculture sector project have been instructed to make the necessary arrangements to increase the production of dry chillies.
