MINISTER TALKS ABOUT ADMITTING STUDENTS TO HIGHER LEVEL.

It is reported that Mr. Susil Premjayant, Minister of Education, while speaking in the Parliament today (12) stated how priority is given to schools in applying for Advanced Level based on the results of the General Level.

He mentioned that the schools should call for applications according to the relevant circular, and that in schools where most of the average students pass, the children of that school will have priority in applying for the advanced level, and if the school where a child is studying does not have the relevant stream, those children will be enrolled in other schools.  That the priority will be given.

The minister who commented further,

“The school that appeared for the ordinary level examination should not have the subject stream or the combination required for advanced level education. This should be confirmed by the principal. Whether it is confirmed or not, the children will request. For example, there are 182 A 9 students in Colombo’s Ananda College. There are 206 in Vishaka Vidyalaya.  In such a situation, when applying from another school, priority should be given to a child who has that qualification but does not have a subject stream within or outside that region.  Priority should be given to that school. It should be done according to the circular.”
