MOBILE PHONES ARE PROHIBITED FOR NURSES IN JAFFNA DURING SERVICE.

It is reported that nurses and all other employees in the Jaffna teaching hospital have been banned from using mobile phones during their working hours on the order of the Northern Provincial Health Services Director.

It has been revealed that the hand of a girl who came to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital to get treatment for fever had to be amputated due to the negligence of the nurse in the ward where the girl was admitted and the nurse did not pay any attention to the patient.

Many patients who have testified against this nurse have stated that the nurse spends most of the day on her cell phone and does not respond well to patient requests.

Accordingly, taking these facts into account, steps have been taken to prohibit the use of mobile phones by the staff including nurses at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
