NOMINATIONS ARE INVITED AFRESH. THE NUMBER OF MEMBERS WILL BE REDUCED TO 5000.

Delimitation is in final stage – number of members will be increased from 8000 to 5000 and new nominations will be invited.

Chairman of the Delimitation Commission Mr. Mahinda Deshapriya says that the delimitation work is in the final stage.

It has been mentioned that it will be possible to hand over the relevant final report by the end of March and accordingly steps will have to be taken to reduce the number of members of the local government bodies from 8400 to 5000.

Mr. Mahinda Deshapriya has expressed these views while participating in a discussion with an internet channel.

Mr. Deshapriya points out that when the number of members is reduced, it is in that situation that the local government bodies will have to hold the election. He has also mentioned that if the currently scheduled election is delayed, the nominations that have been called for will be canceled and nominations will be called again under the new system.
